Hi, I’m Meg Williams. This is my story.
By the time I was in my early forties I had everything I’d always wanted: Four kids, a big house, and a successful career. I was living the American Dream. I thought I “had it all” and prided myself on “doing it all.”
From the outside looking in my life looked great. But inside I felt trapped and overwhelmed. Everything I’d worked so hard for - the house, the career, the kids - was beginning to feel like a weight around my neck. I kept going through the motions, but inside I was depressed, exhausted, and afraid.
Life, both inside and out, was starting to spin out of control. I knew something needed to change but I just kept pushing. It got so bad that I dreaded getting out of bed in the morning.
One January morning in 2012 I couldn’t wake up. Literally.
I’d finally pushed myself too far. No matter how hard I tried I could not get out of bed. My stress had been so high for so long that my body could no longer tell day from night. My hormones tanked, my thyroid went out and anxiety attacks ensued. My body went haywire. I could no longer keep up the charade of a “perfect happy” life anymore.
This was the wake-up call that I needed. I knew big changes had to happen. I had to find a different way to live life.
Over the next two years I made big changes. And asked myself some hard questions. I started to realize what I truly wanted from life: simplicity, health, and to know myself better.
I sold the big house. I quit working. I started an impressive self care regimen.
I went from living life at 90 mph down to 10.
I liked where my life was headed and eventually was ready for an even bigger leap as I searched for simplicity. In 2013 my husband and I sold everything we owned and took off for Central America with just our backpacks. In 2015 we settled down in a funky Caribbean town in Costa Rica.
It was a radical, scary and difficult transition.
Six weeks into this crazy new adventure I received a phone call that changed me forever. My oldest daughter Hannah had received a stage 4 Cancer diagnosis.
What followed was my worst nightmare. I flew home and my days became consumed with exhaustive, desperate attempts to save my daughter’s life. Eventually I just wanted her suffering to be over. My beautiful daughter died with grace and dignity 100 days after she was diagnosed.
I was destroyed.
Unable to function.
I wanted to die.
I felt like I’d been violated by God. The world didn’t feel like a safe place to be anymore.
Many times I thought it would be so easy to give up and join my daughter. It took me many months before I decided I would try to live again.
It soon became apparent that if I was going to heal, I needed a whole new set of tools for the journey. I had no idea how to come back from this much pain and trauma.
I became a woman on a mission.
I went in search of anything that would help me heal from this unimaginable pain. I’m here sharing my story with you because I found what I was looking for and I started to heal.
I found Breathwork - Simple yet powerful exercises that helped me process my grief and painful emotions through deep breathing.
I found mindfulness - Techniques for looking inside myself and examining my thoughts. Mindfulness helped me deal with the memories and let go of the painful stories that consumed me.
I found dance and movement - In my early life I was a dancer and instructor. I re-discovered this modality as a way to reconnect with my body and my emotions.
These three tools set me on my healing journey.
They helped me become whole again.
I believe in the power of breathwork, movement and mindfulness so much that I’ve made it my life’s work to share these tools with other people who are seeking change and healing. I have invested thousands of hours in education and training to discover how they work. Now it is my great joy to share them with you.
